Sam Hankin - Computing

I am currently Assistant Head of Department for Computing and Design & Technology at The Priory School in Hitchin. I am responsible for Computing from Year 7 to 13, ensuring we are teaching the most up-to-date Computing skills        students will need now and into the future. Computing has all but infiltrated every aspect of our lives; everything from mobile phones, televisions, traffic lights, theme parks, agriculture to sport, depends on computers and their programmes. Soon cars will drive themselves, our fridges will be able to order their own replacement groceries, and computers will have the same processing power as our brains. We aim to ensure our students are prepared for whatever the future holds.

I have a first-class honours in Computer Forensics and Security, and prior to teaching I have worked as an IT Project Manager across Europe for a global pharmaceutical company, and a software developer for a local SME. I enjoy including real world IT experiences and practises in our curriculum to help engage students in their learning.

I also have a whole school responsibility for eSafety and have been working jointly with another SLE, Andrew Jones at Hitchin Girls, to deliver online safety sessions across a range of schools to students, staff, and parents. I am a certified CEOP ambassador.

I am a Google Certificated Educator Level 2, and I am currently working towards my Google Trainer status. I have recently launched the Google Education Suite to all Key Stages at the Priory to allow us to assign, evidence progress, and mark work digitally in Computing using Google Classroom. I am now training colleagues across other departments in how to use the Google Education Suite.
